I have no idea what Turboflash means. Neither does Google. It probably had to do with combustion chamber changes on the 361 that year (improved swirl?), but it sounds cooler than that.

Turboflash means the same thing for De Soto as Golden Commando did for Plymouth, which means it is a made-up marketing term to make the engine sound advanced and space-agey.

I don’t think it was even that, I think it was just a cool sounding name for the engine, the De Soto equivalent of Golden Commando.

Look at my Cuban cars post while you’re passing through. I’ll wait.

I don’t know what it means, and I don’t care. All I know is that I love me some late 50s DeSotos.

Turbo because everything got called Turbo in the 50s, Flash because Flash Gordon and Space Age?
Also, Cuba holy shit

I assume you mean the things I found earlier? The ‘49 Lincoln +70s eastern bloc thing, etc.? I wasn’t even looking for that stuff - I was looking for ‘42 De Soto ad copy and saw the Fronkensteen and went WHAT THE BALLS. And then when I went to the Flickr page there were the other two.

Turboflash? At least that sounds better than “Golden Commando”. I don’t even want to think about what Golden Commando means.
